Abstract:

TRICHOGRAMMA ARE EXTREMELY TINY WASPS IN THE FAMILY TRICHOGRAMMATIDAE. WHILE IT IS UNCOMMON FOR AN INSECT’S SCIENTIFIC NAME, ESPECIALLY ONE SO LONG AND UNUSUAL AS TRICHOGRAMMA, TO ALSO BECOME ITS COMMON NAME, THE COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT OF THIS NATURAL ENEMY AND THE FACT THAT IT ATTACKS SO MANY IMPORTANT CATERPILLAR PESTS HAS EARNED IT A PLACE IN THE POPULAR VOCABULARY OF MANY PEST MANAGEMENT ADVISORS AND PRODUCERS. THE EGG PARASITOID, TRICHOGRAMMA (HYMENOPTERA: TRICHOGRAMMATIDAE), IS USED EXTENSIVELY AROUND THE WORLD AS A BIOLOGICAL CONTROL AGENT FOR THE CONTROL OF LEPIDOPTEROUS PESTS. WASPS ARE EITHER RELEASED TO AUGMENT AN EXISTING POPULATION “INOCULATIVE RELEASE OR THEY ARE RELEASED IN LARGE NUMBERS TO COINCIDE WITH MAXIMUM PEST PRESSURE “INUNDATIVE RELEASE.” FIELD RELEASES HOWEVER, HAVE HAD VARIABLE SUCCESS. THIS HAS BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO WASP QUALITY AND ISSUES RELATING TO THE RELEASE AND INTEGRATION OF WASPS INTO AN AGRICULTURAL SETTING. WASP QUALITY CAN BE SPLIT INTO GENETIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPONENTS. HERE, GENETIC QUALITY IS DISCUSSED IN TERMS OF THE IDENTIFICATION AND MAINTENANCE OF SPECIES/STRAINS MOST SUITED TO THE PARTICULAR SITUATION. ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS THAT ARE THOUGHT TO IMPACT UPON WASP QUALITY INCLUDE REARING HOST EFFECTS; REARING CONDITIONS UNDER CONSTANT ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS, OR BY ACCLIMATION; AND STORAGE CONDITIONS. RELEASE AND INTEGRATION ISSUES THAT ARE CONSIDERED IMPORTANT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF A SUCCESSFUL IPM APPROACH INCLUDE HOST/PARASITOID SYNCHRONY, PESTICIDE CHOICE AND TIMING OF APPLICATION AS WELL AS WEATHER CONDITIONS AT THE TIME OF RELEASE. IN THIS PAPER WE FOCUS ON AND DISCUSS QUALITY ISSUES, BOTH GENETIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL, AS WELL AS CONSIDER INFORMATION PERTAINING TO OPTIMAL RELEASE CONDITIONS, IN RELATION TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF TRICHOGRAMMA AS AN EFFECTIVE BIOLOGICAL CONTROL AGENT.

Abstract:

Research was conducted to develop and RELEASE new improved winter safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) cultivar suitable for cold and semi cold areas of Iran. In 1995, 1996 and 1997, line L.R.V.51.51  was selected from Uromeieh landraces based on agronomic traits, resistance to diseases and abiotic stresses under field conditions. It was included in yield trials in main Research Stations Karaj, Isfahan and Darab, together with 9 safflower lines, as well as widely grown improved cheek cultivar Zrgan-279 Results showed that this line produces significantly higher and stable yield. Analysis of the grain and oil yields using Eberhart and Russel method showed significant difference for the main effects of genotype and genotype × environment (linear) interactions and non-significant difference for deviation from regression. According to the classification of genotypes based on the mean of grain and oil yields, coefficient of regression and deviation from regression, the new line L.R.V.51.51 with its high grain and oil yields and stability was selected as a desirable genotype while it has more tolerant to cold than Zargan-279, with mean grain and oil yields 2205 kgha-1 and 600 kgha-1 respectively. The new line was RELEASEd in 2005, with the name of Paideh.

Abstract:

Mark-RELEASE-Recapture methods are used for delineating foraging territories of termite colonies and estimating their foraging populations. In this research, marking of termites was evaluated by the use of two ingested dyes: Nile Blue (NB) and Neutral Red (NR). In this experiment, filter paper circles were wetted with 1 ml of each dye at concentrations of 0.1%, 0.25% and 0.5% (treatments) and placed into Petri dishes(9.0 cm in diameter), each containing 50 workers (the final stage). In the control treatment, filter papers were moistened with 1 ml of distilled water. Each treatment had four replicates for each dye marker and was kept in a dark incubator (90±5% RH, 28±2oC) for one week. The changes in the weight of workers before and after marking were also compared and analyzed using SAS software and means were compared using LSD test. The mean comparison of NB treatments and NR treatments with control through survival, the percentage of stained workers (after Arcsin  transformation) and the change in the weight of workers showed that concentrations of 0.1% and 0.25% NB and concentrations 0.25% and 0.5% NR did not show significant differences with control. In order to determine the best concentration for fast marking, in the second experiment, marking was studied after 8h thirsty condition. The termites were stained in one day at concentrations of 0.1% NB and 0.5% NR. Therefore, it is recommended to use concentrations of 0.1% NB and 0.5% NR plus 8h thirsty condition for fast marking. Laboratory experiments and preliminary field studies indicated that dye markers can be used for investigation of M. diversus foraging behavior, determining number of colony, distinguishing nestmates in aggressive behavior experiments and examining the transfer of toxicants between test termites.

Abstract:

Due to the diversity of polymers as well as their complex behavior, research in this field is still widely developed. Because biodegradable polymers become decomposed in the human body after decomposition, they are more commonly used because surgery is not required to remove these polymers from the body after the drug is RELEASEd. Understanding the mechanism, modeling and studies of drug RELEASE from homopolymers, copolymers and mixtures of this family of polyesters is the focus of this research. In this research, the RELEASE of drug from homo and biodegradable copolymer in pure form with drug and finally the mixture of the two with drug has been investigated to determine the differences. In the proposed model, the equations that represent the degradation of the polymer are used to be able to predict the degradation of the polymer. The drug used is paclitaxel, which is a very important drug for chemotherapy. Since this drug is administered every 3 weeks for 3 hours, it is necessary to use controlled systems. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to achieve a predictable model for controlled RELEASE of paclitaxel, so that this model responds to the RELEASE of paclitaxel at any time.

Abstract:

The aim of this research is formulation of sustained RELEASE Diclofenac sodium tablet. In this research, diclofenac sodium (The drug), and polymers such as Ethylcellulose (EC), Eudragit, Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), and p-cyclodextrin (P-CD) were used. Tablets were prepared from different ratios of the drug and the polymers by the slug method. The RELEASE profiles from prepared tablets were obtained by the USP XXII (Apparatus II) in phosphate buffer (pH=6.8) at 37±0.5°C and rotation rate of 100 rpm. The best prepared formulation (J), in comparison with the commercial tablet, was chosen by the dissolution testing method. The curve of RELEASE of diclofenac sodium up to 98% RELEASE was linear when plotted as a function of the square root of time.

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to formulate a novel ophthalmic nanosuspension (ONS), an alternative carrier system to traditional colloidal carriers for controlled RELEASE (CR) of acyclovir (ACV). In the present study, ONS is employed to avoid some of major disadvantages of colloidal carriers systems such as instability in cul de sac and short half life by increasing efficiency of drug encapsulation as well as by CR. A quassi-emulsion solvent evaporation method was used to prepare ACV loaded Eudragit RS 100 ONS with the aim of improved ocular bioavailability and distribution. Five different formulations were prepared and evaluated for pH of ONS, particle size, entrapment efficiency, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), in vitro RELEASE profile, in vivo RELEASE studies and stability studies. An average size range of 100 to 300 nm in diameter was obtained and encapsulation efficiency up to 95.0% was observed for all the formulations. Cumulative percent drug RELEASEd for all formulations after 24 h was between 79.28 to 95% indicating effective CR property of ONS. The RELEASE profile revealed from best formulation followed Non-Fickian diffusion mechanism. In vivo studies showed that ACV concentration in aqueous humor at 8 h was 82.83, 77.49 and 34.15 mg/ml. Stability studies showed a maximum drug content and almost similar in vitro RELEASE compared to the initial data found for the sample stored at 4°C. Overall, the study also revealed that ONS was capable of releasing the drug for a prolonged period of time and increased bioavailability.
